Dr. Amy Betz is a Medical Doctor and is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Integrative Medicine, which is an approach to medical care that combines conventional medicine with complementary practices that have been shown through science to be safe and effective. She is fellowship trained in Genomics-based Precision Medicine and completed the Andrew Weil Fellowship in Integrative Medicine. In addition to her medical training, she is certified in teaching Integrative Restoration (iRest - a form of Non-Sleep Deep Rest and meditative inquiry) and has completed training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). Dr. Betz earned her Bachelor's degree from Princeton University and her MD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her Emergency Medicine internship and residency at the University of Pittsburgh and then came to Seattle to practice Emergency Medicine at Harborview Medical Center.
As an ER doctor Dr. Betz found it very gratifying to be able to assist in moments of acute health crisis with the best of conventional care. However, it also became clear that we need a more proactive and personalized approach to address non-acute health issues in partnership with patients. The vast majority of health issues are non-acute, but left unaddressed can develop into an acute health crisis. Lifestyle and choices about how and when we eat, sleep, exercise, and modulate stress all impact health and well-being. Learning our genomics gives insight into our individual strengths and areas of opportunity to know which choices are most important for us. Using cutting edge tools such as continuous glucose monitors and sleep trackers, as well as comprehensive blood work helps to understand how the body responds and what it needs. In addition, some complementary practices in combination with conventional medicine can help patients progress more rapidly or when conventional options have been exhausted. Patients want quality of life and clarity about what is optimal for their specific health goals, priorities, and challenges.
With her conventional, precision, and integrative medical experience, Dr. Betz spends time getting to know a patient’s individual situation and uses cutting edge science and the wisdom of the ancients. Working with Dr. Betz is designed to be synergistic with and does not replace a primary care provider. When not working, she enjoys trail/gravel bike riding, strength training, nordic skiing, and restorative yoga, sauna, and meditation.

Here’s how we work.
-
Genomics-based precision medicine
DNA testing is included as part of your initial evaluation in order to understand your unique nutritional, sleep, physical activity and mindset needs to optimize your potential.
This testing is done with saliva collected by you at home and sent to the lab in pre-paid packaging.
-
Context of your life
The context of your life is continuously assessed in conversations with you to understand your nutrition, sleep, physical activity, stress, mindset, and health goals and priorities. Lifestyle factors have more impact on your health than your DNA by altering whether and how genes are expressed.
-
Comprehensive blood work
Comprehensive blood work beyond the usual testing is included as part of your initial evaluation to understand how your genetic blueprint is playing out in the context of your life and determine specific strengths and areas of opportunity.
Blood work is done at a LabCorp near you.
-
One on one virtual consultations
Initial evaluation, follow up, and focused or in-depth issue visits are all conducted via virtual consultations from the comfort of your private location. Currently serving patients in Washington state.
Online scheduling, payments, messaging, and results via the Practice Better patient portal.
To offer time and attention necessary to partner with you and provide personalized care, we are not contracted with any insurance companies at this time. Payment is due at the time of service.
-
Optional group virtual follow up visits
You may choose to join a group follow up series for regular sessions with a group working on similar goals or health issues and benefit from community and accountability. Examples of health groups include:
Navigating perimenopause
Turning the mind into an ally
Maintaining a healthy weight
Adapting to life with autoimmune disease
-
Thriving beyond stress
Episodes of stress are a normal part of life and the body and mind are designed to be resilient to a certain amount of acute stress. For example, this is how we adapt to exercise and strength training, new situations, transitions, and challenges in life.
However, at times the system can be overwhelmed when the stress load is maximal or continuous and outweighs recovery resources and skills. Identifying any maximal or continuous stressors, building skills and knowing how to use resources allows us to balance the nervous system and thrive beyond stress.
